The fintech scene in Massachusetts is heating up as we head into summer. Below are recent highlights illustrating how our members are advancing fintech, which will ultimately help us in achieving our vision of becoming the global Fintech Hub.
Eastern Bank Expansion: Eastern Bank is merging with HarborOne, marking its first brick-and-mortar presence in Rhode Island. This $490 million deal adds $5.7 billion in assets and 30 new locations to its existing 109 branches. Eastern Bank is a founding partner of the Mass Fintech Hub and has been instrumental in promoting innovation across the banking industry.
MassChallenge Showcase and Awards – RESOLVE 2025: On April 10th, Governor Maura Healey welcomed 400+ attendees at the State Room to celebrate innovative startups and entrepreneurs developing impactful solutions to real-world challenges. Founding members of the MassChallenge FinTech Program were recognized including MassMutual & Citizens.
Mass Bankers Association (MBA) & Mass Fintech Hub (MFTH) C-Suite Panel: Held on April 23rd, this exclusive event featured several senior leaders including Kathleen Murphy (MBA - President & CEO), Marco Bernasconi (Country Bank - COO & Innovation Officer), Ashley Eknaian (Eastern Bank - Chief Digital Officer), Stephen Dow (Monit - Co-Founder & CEO), and Brooke Ybarra (American Bankers Association - SVP of Innovation & Strategy). These energetic industry executives shared their experiences navigating relationships and successfully partnering with fintech startups. Thank you, M&T Bank, for hosting!
Mass Fintech Hub Bootcamp: On April 25th, at the University of Rhode Island (URI), the 8th Bootcamp was held where over 130 attendees filled the auditorium to hear from three panels delving into topics on Fintech + AI. Students remarked about their excitement to connect with so many in the fintech sector and the opportunity to network with the 14 impressive panelists, such as Catherine Lynch (Citizens - EVP, Head of Digital Experience, Human Centered Design & FinTech Commercialization) and Jacqueline LoVerme (Insurify - VP of Strategic Partnerships). Fintech Sandbox Demo Day: On April 28th, a global virtual audience of over 500 registrants from 19 countries tuned in to learn about innovative solutions from fintech startups participating in the Data Access Residency program. Several Massachusetts based Industry & Startup partners were featured further showcasing the Commonwealth as a key player in the Fintech space.
Angel Investing Panel: In partnership with Startup Boston, Mass Fintech Hub hosted "Backing the Future: How to Become an Angel Investor" on May 14th at Vestigo Ventures. This incredible panel event shared practical advice from experienced investors and founders on how to become an angel investor.
